Descend into the Derinkuyu Underground City

Derinkuyu · Nevşehir · Türkiye

Look for a trace of learning beyond Derinkuyu’s narrow passages: the Cappadocia Area Presidency identifies a large hall as a ‘missionary school’. Its rock-cut ceiling has the shape of a barrel vault, and adjoining spaces are interpreted as study rooms. On the open visitor route, notice this ceiling shape and note the idea of education underground. Photograph a permitted detail, or choose a picture at the entrance if indoor photography is not allowed.
