Temple of Artemis at the ancient city of Sardis (Sart)

Sardis's Temple of Artemis was used for centuries but never completed. The excavation team explains that the finished columns on tall eastern pedestals show how the other, unfluted columns would have looked. Compare and photograph two contrasting surfaces from the open visitor path; note that their difference can reflect unfinished craftsmanship as well as weathering.
