Tirana
Ride the Dajti cable car
The line climbs out of the city in fifteen minutes and puts you on a ridge with Tirana on one side and the mountains of the interior on the other. It is among the longest cable cars in the Balkans. Photograph the city from the cabin.
Go down into Bunk'Art
A five-storey nuclear bunker built for a leadership that expected an invasion which never came, now a museum you walk through room by room. The country was left with something like a hundred and seventy thousand bunkers. Photograph a corridor.
Find the painted apartment blocks
When the city could not afford to repair its communist blocks, the mayor had them painted instead — whole façades in blocks of orange, magenta and green. He later became prime minister. Photograph one façade whole.
